Development into one of my final idea for Expansion

I wanted to structure my video to show like wormholes are being created around the person in the video. To do this i split the clips every 9 seconds and blurred this clips into to each other to create a different reality. I used filters to highlight the reality shift going through iMovies effects, so that each wormhole looks slightly different from the last but the biggest change is from the beginning clip to the last clip.

Theoretical Physics- Video Art

I filmed one female adult speaking about theoretical physics as she is learning the subject herself. i had wanted to film a men speaking on the same topic or a similar subject so that i could screen it simultaneously to give the audience a choice to make their own reality.

I am pleased with the result but the responds of others shows that i need to develop this video more. that i am considering this piece to be developed into a installation piece and from this will develop the video to work around the idea of installation. This will be developed into a piece more representable of the subject matter.

I have split the clip very 9 seconds as a nod toward probability but the respond from  my audience was varied as everyone looks for a reason for the shift of reality. As this creates different reasons for different as they have to create their own understanding of the video and the way the video has been edited. I would like to look into to this further as women and men seems to create a different reasons for the editing style.

This work will develop with other pieces of work to be developed into my final piece, this is will be develop by what i have written about with in this blog. This is one of the pieces that i will develop into my final piece but my last blog showed what i was also developing to be my final piece.

Development off one of my ideas

Video development on shoes around expansions. i photograph the location of the installation and video parts on the room and then decided to do random filming of my putting them away. i uploaded this to my computer and play with the footage and came out with this. see below.

From this video i like the sound on the footage and decide not to remove the sound but i edited the footage to side by side and flipped the second bit on the footage as well i put the speed up so that the sound and footage work better.

Expansion project

My project is based on expansion, so far i have several ideas around this topic.

I first though about theoretical physics and string theory, how this would apply to footwear. I wanted to tie the physical side of expansion with the constant activity of mankind. I played around with using shoe in a hallway to make "strings", showing the connections between people and human progress.

In the end i have decided take this idea on a different path to uses a different approach. Instead of photography, as i felt it lacked the essence of the word expansion, I prefer the idea of an installation piece. For example using strings of shoes guiding people through rooms or expanding a shoe to an abnormal size. I was put off as a another artist has recently worked around the idea of string theory. Tomas Sarenceno recently did an installation on space time foam, his work was inspiring but not in the way i wanted to present my project.

This is a short video (mockup) of my i did on this shoe piece.

This is a video following the shoes to the end with lighting changes and music that best represented me and my work as you are following my style of shoes.

Development through other ideas

This also lead to other ideas that are now being developed or i felt that they are not as good as other ideas that i have had. Another idea was creating a animation on bacteria and the growth rate or micro bacteria. This was develop from the idea science, but as i researched in my college liberty they only had medical books and biology books. This idea will be developed but i might be more of a side project to my mean idea.

These are some of note of the idea have developed from:

1) bacterial.                                     2) close up of my bacteria drawing.         3) a design of string theory as a ball or strings.

I have made development note that can now help me get on the right path to produced a excellent final piece. From the first two image i worked on as inspired my to do an animation on bacteria and from that i went to the camden art gallery and saw a art piece that interested me the most that also link to the idea of growth and expansion.

In conclusion all of my ideas that i have produced even the ideas the are not going to be used helped to develop my ideas into the one idea i am developing through.I will do my piece on the theoretical physics and evolution with women and men as well different angle and colours. This idea will develop more and will become come or help me to get a final piece for the 30th january of this year.

FINAL PIECE- RECESSION

I changed my idea to Cancer because the idea that even if we are in the recession there will always be cancer at the back of your mind.

FINISHED VIDEO- CANCER 

(Name of video= R-13) R-13 means Recession 2013 does recession mean anything when you have cancer.

This is a video piece that uses six videos that use different effects and editing style. This video asks one question that is how does cancer effect you. This is shown with the song 'somebody that i used to know' as this song connotes the opinion and style i want to show to my audience.

This video was shown to my class and this seems to show an emotional side as well as an understanding of cancer and the recession, leaving us with the question: does the recession effect cancer? Does it create a ripple effect?

As i develop my skills on iMovie the videos get longer and i think they are now improved as i have learnt how to do different effects and make my video quality look more professional.

• When this was first shown it was on 6 different video players, so it might be a little different as the timing might be a second late or two. I am already finding limitations with iMovie and now will try to work with final cut pro as well as iMovie.

Recessions Reflection

I am working on a unit from my art foundation that is about recession.
I wanted to do a found footage video on the Tottenham riots as it is a goverment debate on who is to blame for the riots. Even now there are different opinions but there is one truth, and found footage shows a reality to the event.

Once I got the footage I picked it apart into clips that I could use, this is to give an opinion or meaning to a now senstive subject. The artist that helped me to develop my work through was Susan Hiller as I experimented with her uses of colour and effects helped with my development of the found footage piece. As well as Elizabeth Price as the sound and text on her video that won the Turner prize effected how I work with another two video developments, all came out different to each other, giving varied effects to the same subject.

Despite trying different approaches I thought that this idea was coming to a dead end as I did not know how I could develop further, as I thought that I couldn't get my point across. All of the found footage showed only one side of the debate, that the public are in the wrong. I decided to get a second opinion on if I should countuine with found footage and the subject. My tutor reminded me that I work better if the subject is more personal. So I changed my idea from political to metaphorical, using the other meaning of recession as the focus of my work.

I chose the Zabludowicz collection because of the collector himself as he can have the lifestyle he wants and how he wants to relate to the public.Also it has a very interesting background with the building's history and with the owners history with arms dealing and he is political where as he bought a religous building.

Chaim "Poju" Zabludowicz is a London-based billionaire who has generously funded the Conservative Party in the UK and the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI).

• This is the first video which has the hangover 2 sound track. This representing the history of the building and owner.
• the sound show is taking a wishy washy meaning as the film is my that strongly related to the piece but still give the piece more meaning by showing it in a different way.

• This has 007 music,this link to weapons and relate to the owner of the gallery as he is an arms dealer.

Negative viewed video-video two out of three but two was presented

This is the negative video as he has this gallery because he sold weapons that kill people and he buys a gallery for his wife out of his arms dealing that made him one of the top 20 richest person in the UK.

007 gives the idea of action and weapons, but I want to show what he is and how he helped to kill many people by giving them weapons for money. you can say that if he didn't some else will.

He seen as an enemy to some people and considered a hero to others and I am trying to capture the point of both arguements.

I learned with working on the project that it is diffcult to work with imovie 09 when it comes to split screen as imovie 011 would have made the video much more clearer as well as given more of a message to the split screens it self. I preferred the hangover video to the 007 video as I wanted to the meaning to be hiden within the video. Where as the 007 video needs a different kind of split screens to show what I wanted it to mean.

If I were to do the project again I would re-film with a dolly and tripod to get at better quality of film, as well as start filming from the outside of the gallery. I would start filming as the location is interesting (chapel) and can reflect on his crimes also it can relate to a documentary format.

The repeated form in contemporay art

Marcus Harvey, Myra 1995 gave me an idea on relating the repeated image to the image made. Marcus’s work Myra was seen as sick and disgusting art piece at the time. As well, one of the mothers of the children asked for it to be removed from the gallery. This was because the women in the image was a known serial killer, that tortured young children and this story touched the nation. This created fury for the mothers of the children murdered. This touched me as the story meant something in relation to my own.

I wanted to express an opposing view to Harvey’s in my work, but I still used the human face as my subject.  Myra Hindley took away freedom from people so I wanted to work giving freedom back into my work.  Many people still do not have there own freedom and many countries chose not to have freedom of speech. This is why I wanted to do freedom in a portrait  form.

One of the other images I looked at was Antony Gormley’s Field, this made me feel as if the work was encroaching on the room, it felt like the work has cornered you in that room and gave a claustrophobic feeling to the work. It tried to take away your personal space but how the work was set out tried to create a waving motion to give the idea of freedom. This is like an opportunity to get out and have your freedom.

I feel the mentioned artists are taking a negative view on the world, and this is in conflict with my own work.  I want to make a piece that expresses positive ideas rather than negative ones.  The idea of having androgynous face is the you can have freedom even if you female or male and the idea that every one has there own freedom even if they are a child. The wave relate to the soul and to freedom, this also relate to the eyes are the key to the soul. In my work to can see wave being product by the eyes this link to freedom is what your soul wants.

I feel that I could develop off my final piece to progress within this subject matter, using the idea of putting waves into a portrait to show the freedom we have or need. It gave me another ideas that I might progress on in the future. This idea is to have a glass or crystal skull and have water as waves as well putting it on a moving plate, so it can move and create waves.  The influence for this was perhaps Damien Hirst’s For The Love Of God the skull in that piece helped to develop my idea that I might progress on.

Another idea was to countuine the idea of waves and create a room to display them in.  Using narrow aquarium's to give the effect of living waves being curated in a sort of zoo.  Calm, sedate waves flowing slowly; and other, quicker waves representing anger or impatience. This would be displayed with mirrors to create an effect of reflection of life and emotion.  This can be created by light and changing the consistency or the strength of the lighting.  Taking away the wall that people have set as a defence against raw emotion the exhibit is transparent.  Instead of bottled emotions these are free.
